Family ID
People with the same last name at the same address are grouped as a family with the family_id
attribute. For example:
person_id | first_name | last_name | street | family_id |
586248672155 | John | Smith | 123 Main St | 456386317944 |
954657264921 | Betty | Smith | 123 Main St | 456386317944 |
216795267898 | James | Doe | 123 Main St | 957983215956 |
Since John and Betty share an address and last name, they have the same family_id
. James has a different family_id
because he has a different last name.

Parents & Children
Children under the age of 18 do not have individual records. Instead, the records for the parents have attributes about their children such as age and gender. Information is gathered from product warranties, web registrations, response cards, magazine subscriptions, and other third party data.
The age and gender of children are not always available, whereas values for family.children_count
and parent
have greater fill rates.
